Dodge Hunger Challenge

Dodge+Hunger+Challenge

Ember Simmons and Stefanie Waga

The annual Dodge Hunger challenge has returned to Hammonton Middle School.  Students are encouraged to donate canned goods from October 24th – November 18th. Multiple school districts throughout South Jersey participate in the Dodge Hunger challenge every year, which raises food for people in need through the Society of St. Vincent De Paul. All food donations must be non-perishable and within the expiration date.

On Wednesday, October 19th, the Student Council met to discuss this challenge. They hung up posters around the school to motivate students to participate. Donation bins are scattered throughout the halls, with the sixth-grade bin outside the E wing, the seventh-grade bin outside the office, and the eighth-grade bin outside the library.

At the end of the challenge, Student Council will count the food in each bin. Expired items will not be included. Whichever grade donated the most food will have a dodgeball game with their teachers at the end of the day before Thanksgiving break.

Both students and teachers are thrilled to skip some class time to play an epic dodgeball game while helping those in need. Regardless of who wins, this challenge will feed those in need while rewarding students with a break from the grueling classwork!
