Fall 2023 Cross Country

Fall 2023 Cross Country

The sport of cross country is running long distances on different terrains. The HMS cross-country team runs 1 ½ miles for each meet. Regularly, they run one meet per week. Not to mention, all of the times they run alone on the weekends. Mr. Alexander Georgoulianos is the team coach; the kids refer to him as Coach G. In total, there were 12 kids on the team. These students would consistently run until 4:20 every day after school. On average, the team ran for 7.5 miles a week. The teams season wrapped up their season on October 30th– that’s a lot of running!

The two writers of this article, Noelle, and Riley, recently sat down to discuss. Noelle interviewed Riley, an 8th grade runner, who has been running since 6th grade.

Noelle: How do you feel about the 2023 cross-country season overall?

Riley: I feel like it was pretty good. Everyone made a lot of PRs. However, we did lose practically every meet and the girls didn’t qualify as a team anyway.

Noelle: What was your PR this season?

Riley: Personal record was 12:05.

Noelle: Did most people on the team also run outside of practice?

Riley: You know the good ones did. Most of the people who got good times in the meets, you could tell they were running outside of practice.
