Riley Raffensperger, Staff Writer

Through the weeks of March 20-April 16 in Washington DC you can attend the Cherry Blossom Festival. The Cherry Blossom Festival began in 1912 when the Mayor Yukio Ozaki gifted the city of Washington D.C 3,000 cherry blossoms. This festival has been a symbol of friendship between the citizens of Japan and the citizens of the U.S. for over 100 years! With some many options available, what are some activities you can participate in during this event?

For starters, there is the Blossom Kite Festival, Japanese Street Festival, Capital Waterfront Fireworks during Petapalooza, and the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade which of a few of the events people are able to attend. The Blossom Kite Festival is on March 25th, from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. This event is exactly what you thought it would be. The public may bring their kites and fly them. If children wish, they may be able to make their own kites in one of the areas. Petapalooza is on April 8th, from 1 p.m- 9 p.m.  The event celebrates art, music, and play to multiple outdoor stages. The festival is concluded on April 15th with the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade. This parade features floats, helium balloons marching bands, and much more!

More than just cherry blossom trees, Washington D.C. is full of exciting events and activities during this time!
