Mini Model Congress

On March 18, 2014, you probably recall seeing many students all dressed up.  Mini Model Congress is an event that HMS has participated in for over 15 years. Basically, Mini Model Congress is where the HMS enrichment language arts goes to a trip in Trenton to debate on bills in the actual house. The trip isn’t just a one day thing; just going and then it’s done. The trip begins months before where students write and support their own bill. Some bills get selected by Mini Model Congress to be debated on that day. At Mini Model Congress, students get into small rooms then unite in a big room later in the day to debate on the selected bills.

Mini Model Congress is set up by the EIRC; them and Hammonton Middle School almost always had a connection. HMS participates in this event to show the crossover between language and social students, making the connection clear, and it shows students the use of persuasive skills in a real-life example. Whenever a student has to write a persuasive essay, they can relate it to the experience.  Students should take the importance of these skills home with them.
