We are All Spelling Bee-autiful Winners!

Madisson Buehlman, Staff Writer

How do you spell victorious? Because that’s what I like to call all the participants in this years HMS 2015 Spelling Bee! On Wednesday, February 18th, the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students rallied together after qualifying from the spelling test each student took part in in there language arts class’s. The competitors gathered along the stage to spell it out for first place, and to continue on to the Atlantic County Spelling Bee! The room settled down into a quick silence, and those busy bee’s spelled there competitive spirit out in sweet honey! Yet, a lot of students made a sting and a miss, and was knocked out of battle. The tasteful nectar turned sour when the staged cleared down to only four contestants, and boy was it intense! The pressure beating down, the tension that made the audience rise out on the edge of there seats, and do not get me started on them letters! Can I just tell you how E-A-G-E-R   I was to discover the victorious speller that will go on to represent our school? Turns out that our winner was none other then…  8th grader Sarah Peretti!

I had received the opportunity to interview Ms. Peretti as trophies were given, and pictures were being flashed and taken.

MB: ” Did you expect you were going to come out on top as the new HMS Spelling Bee champ?”

SP: ” I honestly never guessed.. I was shocked.”

MB: “What were your feelings towards hearing your name called for 1st place?”

SP: ” I was surprised, and excited.”

MB: “And how will you prepare yourself for the Atlantic County Bee?”

SP: ” Definitely study a lot more.”

Good luck Sarah at the next Bee, and congratulations to all the participants, you all did wonderful! Remember, there is always next year!
