Recent breakouts of E. coli have been impacting many as of recent! There have been traces of E. coli found in organic carrots throughout the United States. Organic carrots bought from 9/11/2024 to 11/12/2024 may have traces of E. coli in them. Recently, many instances of E. coli being found in McDonalds’ onions.
So what is E. coli? Well, E. coli is a bacteria found in the environment, foods, water, and the intestines of people and animals. There are many different types of E. coli that remain in the human intestines at all times but harmful ones are the ones that mainly negatively affect us. E. coli usually affects young children and international travelers. The effects of E. coli could be diarrhea, stomach cramps, vomiting, and fevers.
Organic carrots, whole carrots and baby carrots, were shown to carry E. coli impacting people all over the US. There have been 39 cases, 15 hospitalizations, and one death tracked over 18 states. As of now, there is still an investigation going on, but a recall has been issued. Any carrots bought now are fine but if you still have any recalled carrots be sure to throw them away for your own safety.
Through recent years, the spread of E. coli has increased due to the overuse of antibiotics. There has been a 25% increased rate of E. coli cases than there were just 5 years ago. E. coli has affected over 300 people in the United States which has led to some being hospitalized and few dying.
