Hammonton Middle School’s 2024 track and field season has begun! This year the girl’s team coaches are Mrs. Goblish and Mrs. DeKlerk. Mr. Brough will lead the boy’s team.
The teams will compete in three separate invitationals instead of one invitational, like in previous years. The team hopes to do well in all three opportunities since they know they will be facing many other local schools. The top performers have the chance to attend the invitationals. Winners who place in an event can expect the chance to win a medal.
Events for meets will be the same as last year; no new events have been added this year. The single-person running events are the: 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, 800 meters, and the 1600-meter. In addition to single-person events, the relays are 4 by 100 meters and 4 by 200 meters. As for field events: shot put, disc, and jumping remain the three events.
Many students are excited and anxious for the season practices to begin on March 20th. Most students find themselves liking the sporting events (100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, 4×100, and 4×200). Very few athletes compete in the distance portions (800 meters, or 1600 meters) or field events. On average, most students compete in two events. This writer will be competing in the 1600-meter, 100-meter, and 4×100-meter relay. After speaking with my teammates, most I know will be completing sprinting. I do; however, know a few distance runners and field competitors.
Everyone at Hammonton Middle School wishes for the track and field season to be successful, full of wins, and fun. Good luck, everyone!
