Leaves: Love em’ or Leave em’?

Siena Ezzi, Staff Writer

Leaves changing colors and falling from trees are the symbol of showing fall is upon us! I recently thought about peoples’ opinions on these multicolored pieces of nature covering their yards and decided to interview others to gauge their perspectives.

First, I interviewed a sixth grader at Hammonton Middle School. I asked her if the mess of leaves bothered her, and made her want to clean. She answered, “No, the reason is I enjoy stepping on them. When my backyard is full of them, I go outside very frequently to step on them.” I then asked another student if she thought the leaves made her yard look messy and dirty. She replied with, “I don’t think it looks messy, and it’s satisfying to step on them.”

Next, I decided to ask adults the same question. I started by asking a sixth-grade math teacher. Just like I asked the students, I asked him if the mess of the leaves bothered him. He replied with, “Yes, the mess truly does irritate me.” I then asked a counselor about her view on the look of the yard. She said that she, “likes her yard looking as clean as possible with no leaves.”

So, even though they are viewed differently between kids and adults, leaves are fall’s number one mascot!
