Coin Drive 6th Grade Movie!

Deborah Lee, Staff Writer

As of Monday, Februrary 7th, the 6th graders finally received their reward from winning the Coin Drive: a movie played during study hall! Some 6th graders considered the movie terrible, while others said it’s great. Personally, I don’t like it but I don’t hate it. Let’s see what the movie was about and why others disliked or liked the movie!

The movie we watched in study hall is called “Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life.” It’s a PG, CBS Film, comedy and family movie that plays for one hour and 32 minutes. The movie contains a lot of weird and rude humor, language, and thematic elements. The movie is about a kid named Rafe Khatchadorian, (played by Griffin Gluck,) having a wild imagination and a slight problem with authority. Though once he moves to a new school, he’s required to follow all the rules– which is really problematic to him. Rafe, with his friend Leo, comes up with ways to mess with the principal. Users from Google rated this movie with an average of 81% of people liking the movie. What did people dislike about this movie?

“It’s not the best movie I’ve ever seen. To be honest, it’s kind of a ripoff of Diary of a Wimpy Kid. It also distracts kids from their homework,.” said a 6th grade student.

“It’s just.. cringe. The sense of humor in this movie is too old,.” adds another.

However, others seemed to really like the movie. They think that, “…we didn’t see enough of the movie to determine an opinion.”

It’s too bad for them though, because before they made a decision, the movie got canceled!

The day after the 6th graders watched it for the first time, the movie was canceled. The reason was because some 6th graders were misbehaving. I recall the teachers in the study hall saying, “Nope! Nope! Done. Nuh-uh.” as they turned off the movie due to the disruptive behavior. It’s sad how we’ll never get a full opinion on the movie since we’re no longer allowed to watch it. Maybe next year we’ll be able to have a proper opinion!
