Music. It’s something everyone has a passion for; whether it’s pop, rock, metal, country, or even classical, humans were made to enjoy the sound. Music junkies are no stranger to concerts and other musical festivals, but there are probably still some newbies wondering…what to do at your first one? Here are a few simple tips from a music lover herself on what to do.
- Get there on time. Not early. A majority of the time, bands will not begin playing until around 15-30 minutes after the selected start time; however, do not show up late as to miss the openers! Although you may not be there to see them, it is a great opportunity for bands with smaller fanbases to get some traction–it means loads. And who knows, you may end up really liking them!
- Always bring a clear bag. Every stadium’s rules and obligations are different, yes, but bringing a dark and expensive bag will definitely end in it getting ruined. Concerts are sweaty, cramped atmospheres, and speaking from personal experience, alcoholic beverages most definitely will fly onto it.
- Do not wear the band or singers merchandise to the show. Although it may be nice to show support for the band, wearing different merch will strike conversation or compliments among fellow fans. Who doesn’t love a good nerd out?
- Do not bring signs or throw things at the singer. Although bringing signs may seem like an innocent way to express yourself to the band or performer, they most likely won’t see it, and the view of the people behind you is completely tarnished. Throwing things has resulted badly in many cases. For instance, a fan threw a bracelet at Billie Eilish, and it hit her in the head.
- Don’t be afraid to sing! Even if it may seem embarrassing, a majority of the fans will be singing or screaming the songs. The whole point of music is to enjoy it, right? So don’t be afraid.
Now you’re ready, not quite a junkie yet, but if you make it through this concert, who knows if you’ll become one? Have fun, and good luck!
