Welcome to the New School Year!

Deborah Lee, Staff Writer

It’s a new school year! As time goes by, students are now just beginning to ease into their schedules. This school year seems to be pretty interesting so far.!

Let’s talk about one of the main elephants in the room: the 6th graders! They recently moved from W.E.S. Elementary to Hammonton Middle School. The school year is most likely to be rougher for them, as they need to get used to a new schedule, new teachers, AND a new building. Mainly, 6th graders stay in the E-Wing. Their lockers are relatively smaller than the rest of the lockers in the building. A few lucky 6th graders get taller lockers in the CE-Wing, while some even luckier students get lockers in other hallways.

Another one of the topics is the new 7th grade Waterford students. Similar to the 6th graders, they have to navigate a school while coming from a different district, with new schedules and new teachers, too. Despite all of this, they seem to be getting along with other HMS students just as they would with each other!

Along with the new students in the building, there are many new teachers who are willing to take the time to make sure students get proper education!

Speaking of 7th graders, what about the 7th graders returning from 6th grade at HMS? They are also experiencing new things like a slight schedule adjustment. For example, instead of staying in the E-Wing most of the time, their classes are dispersed throughout the school now. Some classes are in the A-Wing, some are in the B-Wing, C-Wing, D-Wing, or even back to their roots in the E-Wing. Their auditorium period is slightly different from last year’s as well, with a new supervisor. The supervisors dismiss row by row instead of everyone leaving at once.

As a 7th grader, I do not know what it is like for the 8th graders. However, I believe that the 8th grade could be even harder than the lower grades. 8th grade is one grade before high school, anyway!

In the end, the school year has just started and the cycle is starting again. I hope that this year is less chaotic than 2020 and 2021. I wish the best for every student!
