A9’s ALS Experiment
April 22, 2015
Over the summer, the ALS ice bucket challenge took social media by storm. For those of you who are unaware, Lou Gehrig’s disease affects the nervous system, and it weakens muscles causing physical functions to be painful. As a result of reading Tuesdays with Morrie the students of A9 decided to take on the challenge of raising money within the classroom to support ALS research. Mrs.Holak hopes that with this hands-on expierience her students will learn they can make a difference in any ones life. For every $100 her class raises she will personally donate $25 personally.
During the summer Ms.Manna was challenged by Mrs.Holak to complete the ALS ice bucket challenge, but due to graduate school Ms. Manna couldn’t complete it. Mrs. Holak challenged her a 2nd time and she agreed to complete the challenge in front of HMS in freezing temperatures. So far, A9 has raised over $500 in hopes to find a cure for this horrible disease.
If you’re interested in making a difference by supporting the cause, head down to A9 or visit http://www.alsa.org/about-als/what-is-als.html to make a donation.

I am a CALS. My husband is PALS. It was hard and I cry daily but not in front of him unless we cry together. He couldn’t find anything to give him happiness or hope. We have been focusing on our faith. He was only losing his voice before we made the decision to try different medications, which significantly enhanced his condition. He received treatment for ALS/MND at uinehealthcentre. c om from Canada approximately four months ago; since then, he has stopped using a feeding tube, speech is getting better by the day, sleeps well, works out frequently, and has become very active.
